About Paragon Primary

Thank you for your interest in Paragon Primary. Paragon teachers have been working with Austin’s brightest kids for the past 15 years at the middle school level so adding on the 3rd and 4th grades this year has been a wonderful new adventure. We have been delighted that this first year of the Primary School has gone so well. For the 2012-13 school year, we will be making plans for some improvements and additions, the top two being be the addition of a 5th grade class to the Dartmouth Campus and a hiring an additional faculty member to serve as our Science Specialist.

Please find below information about Paragon Primary. Let me know what other questions you may have. Sincerely,

David McGrath
Headmaster & Founder

Paragon Primary is housed in the north east building of Crestview Baptist Church complex on the corner of Dartmouth and Woodrow Avenues, three blocks south of Anderson Lane and three minutes from Paragon’s main campus on Koenig Lane. Paragon leases the gymnasium, the playground, and a floor of classrooms for the use of our students.

Paragon Primary has a talented and experienced faculty. We will be hiring an one additional instructor for 2012-13 to serve as the science specialists for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Paragon Primary also encourages the parents of our students to add their skills to the mix by volunteering to help out where they can.

Paragon Primary is its own school but falls under the Paragon Prep corporate umbrella. Applications to Paragon Prep Middle School from graduates from Paragon Primary will be given priority consideration.

The curriculum for Paragon Primary is rigorous and diverse. As a start, we certainly satisfy the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for each grade as required by our accreditation. As with Paragon Prep students, we far exceed these minimal standards with more depth in each subject and a variety of additional topics. The classroom teachers in conjunction with the administration have selected the specific texts and supplementary materials used in each grade.

Homework is a part of a student’s life, but it should not dominate a child’s after school hours. Paragon Primary will strive to send home useful and necessary work each night, but not more than 30 minutes for 3rd graders, not more than 40 minutes for 4th graders, and not more than 50 minutes for 5th graders

We offer daily PE classes, weekly art, Spanish, and music classes, and Friday afternoon “interest groups” that include such topics as: Robotics, Drama, Nutrition, Simple Machines, Yoga, Forensics, KID-FIT and more.

Computer Lab

Rather than a lab for students to visit, Paragon Primary’s classrooms are outfitted with class sets of iPads. These latest Apple computers are seamlessly incorporated into every part of the curricula.

Aftercare will be offered ach day for 3:00 to 5:30 on the Dartmouth Campus. Activities will include: Study Hall Time with trained tutors, Time in the Art Room with Ms. Bolt, Gym Time with a coach and lots of snacks. Cost: $10/hour or $650 per trimester.
