Paragon is excited to announce that we have planned an international trip to Greece and Crete for the Summer of 2011.  We will be heading out on an adventure through the cradle of Western civilization.  The trip includes a nice balance of education and cultural immersion.  It is truly a life changing experience!

This trip's path follows the itinerary of two trips the Paragon Knights have taken to Greece in the past.  The trip will split time between mainland Greece and the magical island of Crete.  We will tour Athens and climb the Acropolis to see the Parthenon.  We will head out to Sounion to stand atop the point where the Temple of Poseidon overlooks the southern Mediterranean.  We will cross the canal into the Peloponnese to visit Corinth.  We will climb the 1,800 foot climb to see the view atop the Acrocorinth, where Greeks and Romans alike used the lookout to see enemy ships approaching many years ago. We will make the legendary trek in the mountains to see Delphi, the site of the mythical Oracle.  After five days in the mainland, we will ferry across the southern Mediterranean to Crete.  We will land on the north side of the island, where we will walk in the Palace of Knossos, the  four thousand year old home of the mythical Minatour. After staying in the north in Heraklion and Rethymnon, we will cross the island and head south to the Libyan Sea.  We will head to the seaside village of Paleochora, which we will use as our home base for our hike into the Samarian Gorge.  The Samarian Gorge is an incredible hike as you start from the mountains and meander your way ten kilometers downhill to the Libyan Sea.  After a nice rest day in Paleochora, we will head back to the mainland, and return home with many pictures, memories, and stories to tell.

We will be traveling with EF.  This will be our fourth trip internationally with EF.  Your purchase of the trip will cover airfare, hotels, transfer, ground transportation, entry into sites, guides, and two meals per day.  Students will need money for one meal per day, and any spending money they will want for thing they wish to buy for themselves or things they want to bring home.

This trip is open to all Paragon family.  It is open to current and former students and their parents and family.  If a current student is in sixth-grade or younger, they will need a guardian to come with them.

Currently, Mrs. Long and Mr. Hathaway are chaperones on this trip.  Mrs. Long actually designed this itinerary, which she led the first time back in 2005.  Mr. Hathaway led a repeat of this trip in 2008.  Both Mrs. Long and Mr. Hathaway have led or been chaperones on Paragon international trips four and six times respectively.  That is  a lot of experience to help your Knights get safely and seamlessly through their international adventure.  We will bring additional chaperones if the numbers are there, so stay tuned!

Scroll on down and see the specifics.  The itinerary listed has the dates listed from June 20th through July 4th.  We have changed that to June 10th to June 24th.  We will update the itinerary when we get a new update.  Please note, with international trips, the requested dates are flexible and could be four days earlier or later.  We will know that next winter.  If you have any questions, please email  Mark Hathaway at mark@paragonprep.com

On paper, this trip looks like we will see a lot of old things in a foreign country.  The experience that anyone has on this trip, though, is pretty indescribable.  Just the chance to be plunked down safely in a magical place and be immersed in that magic is life changing.  We hope you will come with us on this adventure.
